The Calgary Section is having an election!

That means, like Uncle Sam, we need YOU!

All Board positions are up for election, as usual, but will begin serving on a rotating 2 year cycle to keep some consistency on the Board. YOU can read about the various positions available on the Board here: http://www.acccalgary.ca/other/organization-of-the-section.html or, on the new website: http://www.accyyc.com/board-positions/

Nominate yourself here: http://goo.gl/forms/eOvNDfizgS Or let a friend know what they'd be great at and get her to post a nomination for herself! Nominations close on March 7th after which voting will take place online and at the AGM at the April Section Meeting!

With over 1000 memberships including family memberships comprising about 1900 individuals, the Calgary section is one of the largest sections of the ACC. The section offers mountaineering trips of all kinds, (backcountry skiing, ice climbing, rock climbing, and alpine climbing). We also subsidize weekend courses throughout the year covering the full range of mountaineering skills. The Calgary section is very involved in regional access and environment issues, primarily focussed on the Bow Valley, the National Parks, and Kananaskis Country, and the section offers a chance to meet other individuals with similar interests. All section meetings are open to ACC members and guests, as well as non-members. Also, please have a look at our online Event Schedule for a listing of our winter and summer trips lead by our group of experienced volunteers.

Here are some of the reasons why you might want to join the Calgary Section:

  • Participate in club activities year round, ranging from rock-climbing days at local crags to mountaineering expeditions and summer and section camps. In the winter, section trips explore the many ice-climbing and back-country ski areas within a day’s drive of Calgary.

  • Meet other mountaineers, scramblers, climbers and skiers at regular monthly meetings, evenings at a local climbing wall or crag, and many other social gatherings on the section's annual calendar.

  • Learn and hone your mountaineering craft through participation in professionally-instructed courses (at discounted rates) sponsored by the section and on section trips led by volunteer trip co-ordinators.

  • Enjoy our email newsletter The Breeze.

As a member of the Calgary section, you'll automatically become a member of the national club, The Alpine Club of Canada.

Here are some of the benefits of your National membership:

  • Participation in the National Club’s ski and climbing camps in western Canada
  • The National Club's quarterly newsletter, The Gazette
  • The annual Canadian Alpine Journal, one of the world's best alpine journals, at preferential rates
  • Members' rates at the club's hostel, The Canadian Alpine Centre, in Lake Louise, Alberta
  • UIAA affiliation
  • Liability insurance for club events
  • Advance booking privileges and members' rates at the National Club's extensive alpine hut system in the Canadian Rockies, including the Canmore Clubhouse.
