I will be doing at least one long traditional spring traverse this year. Let me know if you are interested in training all year with heavy packs in the anticipation of landing that elusive White Whale. I am interested most by the North Selkirks traverse from South to North. I am looking at doing this in April, maybe the middle two weeks of April? I also would like to do a traverse on the coast, let me know if you have ever dreamt of doing a trip out the John Baldwin bible. There is some interest around the club I have spoken with several individuals but we need to meet and start booking time off. Lets get a good group together and start training as a group. I am open to other objectives if people have a different classic traverse in mind. Lets get together for a pub night and field some ideas....

Chris,

If going to the pub is considered partnof the training, you have perked my interest.

I'm currently uncommitable, but looking for entertaining training days and possibly more commitable closer to the date.

What training days do you have in mind?

Matthew,

The pub is a requisite part of the training! Although, one must have earned a full pint of stout by carrying a pack with a full complement of glacier gear as everything else one needs to winter camp. I've been building up to it slowly, myself and looking for some people to help motivate each other and see where we can go. I would propose we do a couple of short loops with the packs and camp one or two nights overnight. We then have a chance to try out winter camping gear and traverse/expedition style travel in small bites giving people a chance to refine their true "dessert island list of what are you willing to carry" WE could maybe even take a couple of the "super long" day trips and do them as two day trips. I'm open to ideas and suggestions.
