Winter Backcountry Camping in the Parks - Rules, Regs, Beta 2 Years, 7 Months ago
A couple of us have been looking into winter backcountry camping in the Parks - specifically what the rules are since it isn't really clearly laid out anywhere. I figured I'd record everything here on the forum so that other people know what the deal is and don't have to spend time on the phone with confused and vaguely irritated parks staff.

Banff National Park
- Maximum group size: 10 People, 5 Tents
- Location Rules: unknown
- Red Tape: unknown

Glacier National Park
- Maximum group size: none, but don't be an idiot. If you have a big group, contact Rcik Reynolds the 'Experience Manager' at rick.reynolds@pc.gc.ca
- Location Rules: at least 5km from the highway, 1km from any building, not in winter restricted or winter prohibited areas
- Red Tape: You need a wilderness pass

Alberta Parks (Kananaskis etc.)
- Maximum group size: none for 'wilderness' camping, but don't be an idiot. Recommended that you book one of the open backcountry campgrounds if you have a large group since they will have outhouses. Backcountry reservation line: 403-678-3136
- Location Rules: at least 1km from the road
- Red Tape: unknown

If you've got any info to add, post below and I'll update this post.
